Here at St Thomas of Canterbury C of E Primary School, we a have committed staff base, selected for experience, knowledge and aptitude for working with pupils with SEND and dedicated to the wellbeing of each individual.   Small classes and high staff ratio ensure staff know learners exceptionally well.   We put in plans to meet learners’ holistic needs including: strong close working relationships with outside agencies and professionals, individual learning programmes, care plans and all pupils have a profile sheet outlining how we can best support them in school.

We have the support of local authority specialist teachers who have a wealth of experience in areas such as: Autistic Spectrum Disorder, learning and communication difficulties, physiological and neurological impairments, visual impairment.   We currently have access to an Educational Psychologist who may make observations and meet with parents.
All our staff are upskilled and receive training through our pupil led CPD programme based on the current needs of our children.

Essex Inclusion Statement

The Essex Inclusion Statement is a set of aspirations and principles that the Essex Roundtable for SEND have developed in partnership with the Local Authority. It is an indication of the partnership between school leaders and the Local Authority in developing truly inclusive practice in relation to SEND. The Governing Body of St Thomas of Canterbury Church of England Primary School agrees to adopt the Essex Inclusion Statement and to work in partnership with all stakeholders to develop and improve inclusive pratice both in our own setting and the wider context in which we all work.
Inclusion Reviews sit within Essex County Council’s wider approach to supporting, driving and enabling whole-school inclusive practice, as set out in the Education 2021 Position Statement. Review activity has been grounded in the work of the Inclusion Strategy, the Disadvantage Strategy, The SEND Strategy, The Inclusion Framework, the Ordinarily Available, Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP) and the Multi-School Council. Reviewers work with school leaders to evaluate practice, celebrate strengths, and identify areas for further development. The review provides leaders with clear recommendations, accompanied (where appropriate) with signposts to further support.
